Caught up in the bombing raids of September 1944, local residents took refuge in the rotunda or caves of Graville Abbey. In the aftermath of the war, civilian casualties were high and the neighborhood was devastated. The area was then rebuilt in a unique way, with ISAI (Immeubles Sans Affectation Individuelle) buildings modelled on those in the town center, and small regionalist-style red-brick apartment blocks.
