GONFREVILLE-L’ORCHER
Description
Organized by Pays d’art et d’histoire – Proposed by the commune of Gonfreville-l?Orcher.
Founded in the 11th century, the Romanesque church of Saint-Erkonwald was damaged by fire between 1865 and 1870 and rebuilt in Gothic style. Today, it retains Romanesque capitals and a 16th-century baptismal font, complemented by two series of stunning modern stained-glass windows. In the hamlet of Gournay, the church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Consolation was built in the 17th century on the site of an important pilgrimage, said to be the source of many miracles. Its rich furnishings include a listed high altar.
