Abbaye de Montivilliers

Description

Montivilliers owes its prosperity and its renown to its prestigious abbey for nuns. The former “Monasterii Villare”, which gave its name to the town, was one of the major monastic foundations of the 7th century in the Seine Valley. A fully restored masterpiece of medieval architecture, the site was open to the public on 1st July 2000. Unique in Normandy, this kind of interpretation of Norman abbeys makes Montivilliers Abbey a reference to learn more about the essential role of abbeys in the history of Normandy, and their original architectural features.
