LE HAVRE
Description
Learn about the history of the Pointe de l’Escaut, now a structuring buffer zone in Le Havre?s city-port landscape.
Start by visiting the Dockers? bell, which has stood here since 1911. A powerful symbol, it tells the story of these workers, essential to the running of the port and true figures of the people?s Le Havre. Then head for the maritime conservatory to admire the riggings currently being renovated. Here, shipwrights and volunteers bring traditional sailing ships like the Marie-Fernand back to life, perpetuating age-old skills. Finally, take the time to discover the Pointe de l’Escaut nautical zone. An area dedicated to the maintenance and repair of pleasure boats. Here, you’ll experience a unique atmosphere, where technical expertise and harbor ambience meet.
The tour also focuses on a ship with a singular destiny: the USST488, a former US Army tugboat, now retired in the port of Le Havre. In short, after this tour, ship repair and maritime heritage will no longer hold any secrets for you!
