Visite guidée : Les formes de l’Eure
LE HAVRE
Description
The Eure district of Le Havre still bears visible traces of its port past. Docks, warehouses, industrial wastelands… but also dry docks, those gigantic dry docks where ships still come to get a makeover. Today, the area is being transformed and urbanized, and is home to schools, housing… all the while keeping the soul of the port alive.
Le Havre Port Center invites you to spend an afternoon immersed in this living piece of history.
Departure at 2pm from the Terminal de la Citadelle, with an introduction to how the port was built here, between land and sea, between maritime past and urban future. Then on to the Bassin de l’Eure, once the beating heart of the port, now a land of contrasts. Then, the object of the visit: the dry docks. You’ll get up close and personal to understand how they work, what they’re used for, and their discreet but essential role in ship maintenance. These impressive structures, nestled between buildings and schools, are still going strong.
On site, Stéphane Carpentier, division manager at HAROPA PORT, will share with you the technical and logistical underpinnings of these extraordinary facilities, while answering your questions. Between heritage, engineering and urban transformation, this visit will give you a different view of the Eure district.
