A variation on Chekhov’s Three Sisters, German playwright Rebekka Kricheldorf’s text transposes the Russian playwright’s motifs to contemporary Western society, where boredom, disillusionment and the mal de vivre still reign. In the large, dilapidated house where Irina, Masha, Olga and their brother Andrei have been living since the death of their parents, birthdays come and go, and although they don’t resemble each other, time seems to be frozen in a time loop that doesn’t pass. Every year, the party is a failure, conflicts erupt, existence is disappointing, real life doesn’t live up to the dreams, but we continue to remake the world while philosophizing. Against the backdrop of a bourgeois salon that gradually empties, three electric actresses (Elsa Guedj, Marie-Sophie Ferdane and Camille Rutherford) breathe life into a sisterhood that is not without its clashes and cries.
