a sacred work in seven movements that borrows from the Old and New Testaments, Johannes Brahms?s German Requiem for soloists, choir and orchestra evokes death and the salvation of souls, the promise of rest and the hope of eternal life, in a popular and accessible language. In addition to the Orchestre de l’Opéra Normandie Rouen, it is performed here by a benchmark in vocal music, the accentus choir and two outstanding soloists, soprano Michèle Bréant and baritone Matthieu Walendzik, under the musical direction of Lithuanian prodigy Martynas Stakionis, one of the most promising conductors of his generation. A fine line-up for a beautiful work of mourning that Brahms composed shortly after the death of his own mother, and which carries in its secret interstices the painful trace of this loss.
